Nuclear fusion, the clean version of nuclear energy

But isn't nuclear energy dangerous? Well, yes and no. It so happens that there are two types of nuclear energy. In addition to the ordinary nuclear energy of the nuclear power stations there is also the nuclear fusion. Nuclear fusion does not have the major risks of the ordinary nuclear energy. It cannot get out of control, and there are no wastes that remain radioactive for thousands of years. The fuel for ordinary nuclear energy is not inexhaustible. But the fuel for nuclear fusion actually is: for 30 billion years enough.

So far energy from nuclear fusion made little progress

Work on the development of nuclear fusion power plants has been ongoing for many decades. With moderate success so far, and the prospects are also not too good. Success, if ever, will take another thirty years, it is said. But the same statement was already made thirty years ago. The large-scale nuclear fusion project swallows up billions. And even the researchers wonder whether it will succeed in this way, but argue that everything must be tried to safeguard the energy future.

Natural fireball as an alternative

But fortunately Convectron can offer an alternative. Small-scale, and delivered by nature. On lightning discharge sometimes a fireball occurs: the ball lightning. A hitherto unexplained natural phenomenon. A sphere floating through the air, a few seconds lifetime, constant size and luminosity, and without thermal radiation. When all energy has been radiated away, the sphere disappears. This natural phenomenon opens up a promising new route to nuclear fusion as sustainable energy source.

Nuclear fusion occurs also in nature

Sometimes the ball lightning exists much longer, even up to more than a minute. This means substantially more radiated energy. Where does that extra energy come from? It is very plausible that it comes from nuclear fusion. Nuclear fusion as a natural process. The fusion fuel deuterium is present in water, and therefore also in humid air. Light rings observed around such a long-lived ball lightning point directly to reaction products of deuterium fusion.

The Fireball Power Station exploits natural nuclear fusion

How can we use this to build a small-scale nuclear fusion reactor? By creating a fireball and enclosing it in a reactor vessel. And supplying extra fusion fuel. This increases the useful power at unlimited lifetime. The design for the reactor vessel of the Fireball Power Station was established by Convectron already long ago. A patent on the method for fireball ignition is in preparation. In terms of achievable capacity one should think of a large wind turbine. By connection of reactors larger capacities can be realised.

Scientific lead of Convectron

At the base of this idea are observations in nature. And a very solid physics model of the phenomenon, with advanced mathematical solutions. By which the fireball is freed of its mystery. And that explains in detail the mechanism of the fusion process in the ball. Recent tests at various renowned institutes move in the same direction (Russia, Germany, USA). However, Convectron is still a few steps ahead. It is therefore high time for action to realise this innovation, which was developed in The Netherlands and has world potential.

The fireball works as a small particle accelerator

The fusion process in the fireball works differently than in the complex installations that already have been worked on for so long. Not by high temperature, but because many microscopic vortices act as particle accelerators. As with the large-scale nuclear fusion, there is no absolute guarantee that this will succeed. But a great advantage of the Convectron approach is that the process and the reactor are considerably simpler in design. The detailed project plan of Convectron indicates that a working prototype can be realised within four years. This is considerably faster than the large-scale nuclear fusion project , and at significantly lower cost.

It will change the world

Convectron offers a promising alternative route to nuclear fusion. Nuclear fusion can lead to unlimited availability of sustainable and cheap energy. This can provide an unprecedented boost to the economy and prosperity worldwide, and have a decisive impact on the water and food supply. The Convectron route has a solid scientific foundation, and is supported by observations in nature. It is thus a serious alternative that needs to be further investigated without delay.
